Maredudd ap Bleddyn Maredudd is generally regarded as the last fully sovereign King of Powys. Contemporary Welsh usage applied the title brenin (king), and he exercised independent authority over thewhole kingdom. His reign marks the end of Powys as a unified and unquestionably royal polity.
