Jongbloed is critical of the assumption that the count Arnoldus of 1040 is the same as Arnolfus who was brother of Baldric and Gilbert. Nevertheless, equivalence of Arnold and Arnulf in the early middle ages seems to be an old tradition going back even to Arnulf of Metz, and most historians do make this equation.
