An original handwritten letter dated June 13th, 1792, from Margaret Brown of Boothbay, Massachusetts, to the Honorable John Bowman, Esq. Written in flowing period script on laid paper, the letter informs Mr. Bowman that there has never been any administration on the estate of her late husband, Vanus B. Brown of Boothbay, deceased, and requests his assistance as a judge or administrator. She expresses the need for proper administration and hopes for his honor's granting of her request.
The letter is signed "Sir Your Most Obedient Humble Servant" and bears a wax seal impression on the back. The paper shows age-appropriate toning, creasing from its original fold, and some foxing.
An excellent example of late 18th-century Massachusetts correspondence and estate administration. The handwriting is clear and legible throughout. This would be an outstanding addition to collections of American letters, colonial documents, genealogy, Maine and Massachusetts history, or early federal period materials, and it would display beautifully framed.
